Abstract

A harmonic tuning circuit (HTC) for power amplifiers (PAs), consisting only of CRLH TLs, is presented. The HTC is extremely compact and yet can treat various operation classes of amplifier with no need to manipulate the harmonics using microstrip lines. As a proof-of-concept, a 2-GHz 10-W GaN HEMT PA was fabricated. The PA using the 'FET-sized' HTC exhibited drain-efficiency and PAE of 86.5% and 79.3%, respectively. The proposed technique is promising for controlling the harmonics of individual transistors in multi-transistor PAs.
