Abstract

High torque density and high efficiency of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) are required. In this paper, An SRM using Grain-Oriented electrical steel sheets (GO) is proposed. The GO has been paid an attention because of its low iron loss characteristic and high magnetic flux density in the saturation area. The GO is a soft magnetic material which magnetic flux is easily through in a specific direction. Also, three kinds of torques can be used, which are a reluctance torque by the saliency, a reluctance torque by the difference of magnetic permeability, and a torque by the magnetic anisotropy. The torque by the magnetic anisotropy is generated by rotating of each magnetization vector. In this research, two kinds of the SRM are proposed. One is the SRM having two poles rotor, and the other one is the SRM having a cylindrical rotor. The number of poles is set to two poles to confirm that the torque of the SRM using the GO is higher than that of the SRM using Non-Oriented electrical steel sheets (NO). On the other hand, the SRM having a cylindrical rotor is designed to reduce the windage loss in the high speed area. It can be rotated by the reluctance torque generated by the difference of magnetic permeability and the torque generated by magnetic anisotropy.
