Anomalous change of the sound velocity in La2CuO4+δ

The sound velocity Vs is measured to investigate the relation between the recently observed long-range magnetic order and superconductivity in La2CuO4+δ, which reportedly appear in the same temperature range. The sharp minimum of Vs for the longitudinal C11 mode is observed around Tc ∼ 36 K. This anomaly appears at the same temperature when the superconductivity is suppressed by the magnetic field. This result indicates that the anomalous change of Vs accompanies the appearance not of the superconductivity but of the magnetic order.
