Abstract

A method is proposed to correct the gamma-ray attenuation for single-photon emission CT. The correction method utilizes the distribution of attenuation constant, which is inherent in the object, as the a priori priori information for the correction. In other words, the correction factor is computed for each pixel from the distribution of attenuation constant, by which the image is then multiplied to perform an iterative correction. It is shown by computer simulations that the proposed method is effective compared with the conventional methods, especially in the application to the object with large variation of attenuation constant.
