Abstract

D.C and A.C susceptibility studies have been undertaken on Ag doped Bi1.7Pb0.3Ca2Sr2Cu3O10 samples in order to investigate the quality of the materials and how it is related to the critical current density. The A.C susceptibility results showed two steps in x′ vs T curves and two peak in x″ vs T. Jc's were calculated from D.C susceptibility data using Bean's critical state model. Jc was found to increase with silver doping. The increase in sharpness of the low temperature loss peak with increase in Ag concentration and also critical current density suggest that Ag probably precipitates along the grain boundaries and improves the interconnectivity between the grains.
