Abstract

In order to design a light and small sized optical fiber fusion splicing machine with very small power consumption, a new discharge method has been developed. The method uses high frequency discharge and a high voltage trigger at the beginning of discharge. The developed machine is under 3 kg in weight and consumes less than 25 watts electric power. The machine can be operated from both a small battery and commercial power.
