Abstract

The present study aims to develop a fixed and concentrated type solar collector without any sun-tracking subsystem which may overcome the unsolved handicaps existing both for the conventional flat-plate type and concentrated type solar collectors. A reverse flat-plate solar collector proposed consists of a fixed reflector and an absorber plate installed upside down. It has higher collecting performance than ordinary flat-plate collectors especially for higher temperature application up to around 473 K. Some detailed discussions on the optimum design of the present solar collector system and on the experimental results of the system under the actual solar insolation are presented in the paper. The observed results with respect to the collector efficiency and additional performance have shown the prospective features of the proposed solar collector system.
