Abstract

An optical isolator employing a nonreciprocal guided-radiation mode conversion is described. The optical isolator is comprised of a strip-loaded magneto-optic waveguide. Only backward-traveling TM modes can couple to TE radiation modes. The optical isolator was designed at 1.55 /m depending on the refractive index of a strip. Wavelength dependence of the optical isolator was also discussed.
