Abstract
This paper proposes some designs of Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs) for electric hand tools. Since the SRM needs larger current than conventional permanent magnet motor to output the torque, it is necessary to consider the thermal characteristics in the design of SRM. In this paper, some SRM design methods which target is to satisfy the thermal condition and torque-speed characteristics of the conventional PMSM are described. The design focused on volume, current density and copper loss, respectively. The thermal characteristics and torque-speed characteristics are verified by means of measurement results.
