Abstract

Wave digital filters (WDFs) have excellent finite-word-length properties. However, it seems that their complicated structures limit their widespread use. The authors present methods which reduce the complexity of WDF structures. Two kinds of simplification techniques are presented: one is to reduce the number of adders, and the other is to construct WDFs using an identical type of three-port adaptors except for one section. Examples of WDFs with the new structures show the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.
