Abstract

A novel method for the determination of ultrasonic attenuation in the surface layer of materials is proposed through an ultrasonic spectroscopic technique. The method is based on absolute measurement of the reflection coefficient of the materials and spectral behaviour analysis. An experiment is demonstrated for annealed carbon steel.
