N2 - In Japan, many organizations provide the welfare transportation service for elderly persons. We try to support their operations using the ITS technologies. We develop a system to solve four problems: a wrong process of a reservation, impossibility to see the operating status of a vehicle, ambiguous records of vehicle usage, and a large amount of operation manpower. Our ITS system named the DOSS (Daihatsu Operation Support System) Friendship-i consists of an ITS on-board unit and a personal computer connected with the Internet. We use the cellular phone wireless communication network to connect the on-board unit and the personal computer.
