Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to develop a procedure to measure the radiative properties of fibrous porous media where radiation is emitted, absorbed and scattered. A simple and useful method is proposed to determine the radiative properties. This method utilizes both the apparent emissivity of a porous medium and the inverse method. Measurement of the apparent emissivity is made for a planar porous medium whose back surface is heated. The numerical simulation for determination of the radiative properties (the extinction coefficient and the albedo) are made to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed method. It clarifies that the effect of the measurement error on the estimation values of albedo by the present method is smaller than the ones by a typical conventional method. It is found that the radiative properties (the extinction coefficient, the albedo and the back scattering fraction factor) of the fibre glass were obtainable using the present method.
