Abstract

Grey (α‐phase)/white (β‐phase) tin interfaces are investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Most of the phases separated by the moved α/β interface have the three‐dimensional orientation relationship of [011]α ∥ [001]β, (111)α ∥ (100)β. The observations on the α/β interace indicate that the α → β transformation in a thin foil of tin is mainly massive in nature and is performed partially by martensitic transformation.
