Abstract

The packet transmission of upstream in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) can be divided into data interval and reservation interval. Interleaved polling with adaptive cycle time (IPACT) is a popular polling scheme of EPON. In IPACT, a reservation interval is allocated after own network termination unit's data interval. However, the waiting time of packets (= the packet delay) may be large depending on the arriving timing of the packets. In order to reduce the mean packet delay, we propose a novel reservation interval allocation method which delay the transmission timing of the request message for reservation. For evaluating the effectiveness of our proposed method, we use M/G/l queue model to analyze the behavior of the method.
