Abstract

U-shaped cutting along cracks and filling with suitable elastic sealing material is one of the typical repairing methods for concrete cracks. Generally, elastic sealant or elastic putty is used for this purpose. Elastic putties have been used when the crack movement is relatively small because of their some advantages. One of the points to be clarified for these elastic putties is how long they can keep their rubber-like elasticity and follow the crack movement.

This paper shows the results of a dynamic outdoor exposure test conducted for 3 years by using the exposure racks specially designed for introducing dynamic movement. The results were compared with those of the acceleration test which had been reported earlier [1]. The results in both tests showed that durability level depended on the type of polymer. In addition, some other design factors which affect the durability were confirmed in the outdoor exposure test.
