Abstract
Electronic structure and optical properties of the GaP/AIP superlattice are studied theoretically. This superlattice, which is made of indirect/indirect materials, is seen to exhibit features very different from those of the original materials. An improved sp3s* tight-binding method is employed to obtain the oscillator strength at the Γ-point folded from X-point as well as the electronic structure of the superlattice. Furthermore, the structural dependence of the electronic structure throughout the entire Brillouin zone and the oscillator strength at the Γ-point is clarified for the first time.
