Abstract

This paper presents stabilization control method for multi-machine scale power systems using variable series capacitor (VSrC). A new methodology has been proposed to determining the optimal location of installing VSrCs to provide a most effective damping based on the system sensitivity. Here, as a large scale disturbance, three-phase short-circuit is considered. In addition to VSrC, the combined effects of AVRs and governors are considered for stabilization. Simulation results are obtained on 4-generator 11-bus model. Encouraging results have been obtained for the application of VSrCs through the simulations tests.
