Abstract
A new calamatic (rod-like) liquid crystal, which is a luminescent chiral nematic glass at room temperature is reported. It is highly birefringent giving a broad stop band of width >110nm which exactly overlaps its photoluminescence (PL) spectrum. Thus, highly circularly polarized emission is obtained over the entire PL spectral range using a cell of thickness only 3 μm.
