N2 - In case of applying the ultrasonic tissue characterization to diagnosis of myocardial diseases, we must consider anisotropic characteristics of myocardium. In this paper, we specifically investigated the influence of the orientation of myocardial fibers on the attenuation characteristics of tissues with the basic experiment using pig myocardium. Some results showed that the value of attenuation coefficient was greater when ultrasound beam was directed parallel to the muscle fibers than directed perpendicular to them.
