Abstract

The critical current density and the irreversibility field for melt-powder-melt growth (MPMG)-processed YBa2Cu3O7-δ samples are determined magnetically in fields parallel to the c axis. Both Jc and Birr are depressed with increase of oxygen deficiency. Birr is not depressed appreciably with decrease of the concentration of Y2BaCuO5 precipitates in spite of a significant depression of Jc. A bump structure in the Jc(B) curve is observed and varies systematically with the oxygen deficiency. These results are compared to flux-pinning models.
