Abstract
Japanese shipments of metal powders for powder metallurgy (PM) applications totalled 96 307 tonnes in 1996, of which 82% was for automotive use. Here, Akira Fujiki of Nissan Motor Co Ltd, Yokohama, summarizes the present state and future prospects of the PM automobile parts industry in Japan, and discusses ways to overcome some of the problems facing the industry.
