This chapter introduces the background of the birth of kawaii engineering in Japan and describes this idea’s objectives. The second section of this chapter introduces kawaii’s cultural background and describes the cultural differences between Europe/US and Japan. Finally, the last section introduces our preliminary experiment in 2007 into kawaii engineering research.
