Abstract
The static and dynamic (beat-to-beat) characteristics of arterial elastic properties in the human fingers were noninvasively measured by a volume-oscillometric method using electrical admittance plethysmography along with a new sphygmomanometry using the vascular unloading technique developed previously. The volume change was detected by the admittance plethysmography during the application of counterpressure in the middle (or index) finger segment, while the instantaneous arterial blood pressure was measured simultaneously by the sphygmomanometry in the index (or middle) finger. The arterial elastic properties such as static and beat-to-beat pressure-volume relationships and volume elastic modulus could be successfully determined at different levels of transmural pressure from 0 to the mean arterial pressure.
