Abstract

A newly developed optical fiber splicing machine is 2. 5 kg in weight including battery, and consumes 25 watts electric power. The average splice loss and splice tension strength are 0. 03 dB and 480 g, respectively. Power consumption is reduced in this high frequency discharge fusion splice machine by employing a high voltage trigger at the beginning of discharge.
