Proposal of a Variable Magnet Motor Switchable between Vernier Motor and PMSM

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

This research proposes a novel motor that can switch Vernier Motor and PMSM characteristics in a single motor by applying a variable magnet, with the aim of expanding the speed range and the high efficiency range. In this paper, it is verified that the characteristics of PMVM and PMSM can be obtained by changing the polarity of the magnetic poles of the proposed motor by magnetizing and demagnetizing the variable magnets placed in the rotor. Additionally, the effectiveness of torque, speed range, and losses in each motor mode are clarified by Finite Element Analysis.
