Abstract

Aiming for a new direction to yield hydrogen storage alloys, the solid-state synthesis of non-equilibrium Mg2Co was performed by using the bulk mechanical alloying. Through precise monitoring the applied energy density, this non-equilibration commences when the inner energy density exceeds a critical value. Both relative density and pass schedule must be tuned-up to make sufficient supply of mechanical energy for non-equilibration. This synthesized materials were analyzed by XRD and EDX, and observed by SEM to identify a non-equilibrium phase of Mg2Co.
