Abstract

In estimating heat transfer in a traction motor, consideration must be given to a rise in air temperature. The authors investigated air flow characteristic with dummy rotors simulating an armature core in which the prototype motor output is 230[kW]. Air hole diameter, hole number, and rotor speed have little effect on pressure loss coefficient. The pressure loss coefficient is ζ = 49Re-0.3 for Reynolds numbers ranging from 104 to 2 × 105.
