Abstract

A sonic range finding module for a self-contained robot, Yamabico 9, is described. The robot is a machine model that recognizes the outer world with a map. The purposes of the module are: continuous range finding with four transmitter-receiver pairs operating every 30ms; calculation of a least-squares linear fit for the latest N points in three directions every 30ms; and receiving commands from the brain system and transmitting replies to it. The command system, hardware, software and results are presented.
