Abstract
Quality improvement of P/M parts requires a precise description and prediction of the mechanical behavior of the complete P/M process from powder design, through powder compaction and forming, to sintering. Our granular modeling approach treats the powders as on assembly of discrete elements and can describe the mechanical state of the powder in the forming process, For verification, two modes of powder forming were chosen; in these analyses, the powder flow pattern and density distribution were predicted quantitatively and evaluated through comparison with experimental results.
