Abstract
This study deals with the automation of grinding operation. I discovered that the bending vibration is occurring in the grinding wheel during the grinding process. I developed the equipment that can extract the bending vibration sound of a grinding wheel using a microphone. And, the identification of grinding state was discussed based on signals obtained from the bending vibration sound of a grinding wheel. As a result, the sound pressure of the bending vibration becomes high at the specific frequency of a grinding wheel. Specific frequency changes according to specifications such as the size and thickness of the grinding wheel. The sound pressure of the bending vibration has a good correlation with the normal grinding force. The normal grinding force can be measured by the bending vibration sound. In short, the sound pressure of the bending vibration at specific frequency can evaluate the grinding state just like the normal grinding force. This paper is aimed at practical application of this technology. This paper reports on experimental results of STAVAX and SKD 61 which is one type of mold material.
