Abstract

We have fabricated (Nd,Sm)-Ba-Cu-O bulk superconductor using Ba-rich (Nd1-x,Smx)4-2yBa2+2y Cu2-yO10-δ powder in air. The magnetic property of bulk (Nd,Sm)-Ba-Cu-O melt textured in air was similar in Tc and superconducting transition to the bulk with the same nominal composition melt textured in low PO2. This is due to the fact that the presence of Ba-rich second phase in the liquid suppressed (Nd,Sm) enrichment in (Nd,Sm)Ba2Cu3Oy phase.
