N2 - Nowadays the ratio of the elderly to the whole population has been consistently increasing. Many elderly have to live alone. It is often found that they might suffer from depression and injuries that may lead to physically disabilities together with bad mental health. Therefore, assistance for old people to improve their quality of life and to cope with stressful events from aging is promptly required. Intelligent space is a concept designed to support smart interaction between humans and the space that can make humans in the space more comfortable. This idea can be adopted to help the elderly. Thus, this study designs and builds a prototype of an intelligent space for the elderly. From survey research, we learned that our intelligent space should include the following services: Emergency, Medical Consultation and Long Distance Social Interaction. These services help provide assistance so the elderly can feel safer and more comfortable about living independently. Depression might also be reduced. Thus, the quality of life of senior citizens will be improved including their physical and mental health.
