Abstract

The growth of Dunaliella salina and its production of β-carotene in fed-batch cultures was investigated using glass powder containing 10.4-27.7 (%) Fe2O3 and 3.8-7.7 (%) P2O5. The growth of D. salina in fed-batch culture increased with the addition of glass (100 to 200 mg/l). D. salina grew to high density with glass containing 15.1 (%) Fe2O3 and 7.7 (%) P2O5. The optimal level of β-carotene was 11% with glass containing 27.7 (%) Fe2O3 and 3.8 (%) P2O5.
