抄録
This paper aims to clarify the design development process of Kagu-cho TV in Japan. Following five findings are led through the literature research and interviews on Saga.
1) The design of Saga was influenced by North European design concept and American television forms. However, the forms had to be adjusted to match Japanese lifestyle.
2) At that time, the design team of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. was ready to develop original television designs for Japanese market.
3) The design of Saga exhibits influences from the stereo system Utage, which is influenced by stereo system Asuka.
4) The designers of Asuka had no intention to produce a Japanese style product. Commercial advertisements, however, associated Asuka with azekuradukuri.
5) Before Matsushita, Sanyo Electric already applied patents for three design features of Saga.
