In Japan, mortar plastering and ceramic tiling have been the main forms of exterior finishings for buildings. After a long time has elapsed from the date of these buildings' completion, the finishing is deteriorated according the environment.

A new renewal method for treating deteriorated external walls of existing buildings has been developed. The method involves overlaying polyvinylalcohol fiber nets and polymer modified cement mortar with stainless steel pin anchoring.

In this paper, the outline, application method, characteristics of the method and applied materials are mentioned In addition, evalutions of the quality of this method as a building element for renewal are discussed.
