An experience report of introducing product line engineering across the board

Fujitsu Kyushu Network Technologies Limited, a specialty company of system design, has introduced product line engineering (or PLE) for development of system firmwares, driver firmwares, and PCB/Installations. The introduction across the board was performed gradually through three stages: preliminary survey, introduction, and practice. The PLE was recognized too optimistically by the managements and too pessimistically by the engineers at first. However, after the effect of reusing artifacts appeared as quantitative return, both of them shared common perceptions to PLE as a beneficial methodology if applied to appropriate projects.
