N2 - Permanent Magnet Vernier Motors (PMVMs) have been recently studied because of their large torque characteristics. However, although PMVMs have the advantage of large torque characteristics, their superiority has not been proved by numerical comparisons with the conventional Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) that is widely used at present. So, it has not been put to practical use. Therefore, in this paper, we compared PMSM with PMVM by simulation analysis under the same conditions regarding the volume, specific electric loading, and magnetic ratio loading. Additionally, we also compared the characteristics of three PMVMs with different magnetic gear ratios. Finally, the reduction of cogging torque by the open slots used in the PMVM was also examined.
