Comparison of Positive Feelings for CG Robots Between 2D Display and 3D HMD Using Heart Rate

We have been conducting research focusing on positive feelings for a long time. The objective of this study is to compare the positive feelings caused by motions of CG robots between a 2D monitor used for 2D display and a head-mounted display (HMD) for 3D display. The target positive feelings are excitement and relaxation. Our evaluation employs not only a questionnaire but also the user’s heart rate. The questionnaire results show the differences in preferences of robots between males and females. They also clarify the agreement between robot preference and the feeling of excitement when watching the motion of a robot, regardless of the display device used. The degree of excitement becomes stronger when the participant prefers the HMD over the 2D monitor.
