We proposed and developed a novel non-rotating-type centrifugal blood pump for an artificial heart to prevent the blood clotting and hemolysis. This pump has a simple disk which dose not rotate but oscillates in the pump chamber to generate the fluid rotation. The output characteristic tests of the pump were performed by connecting it to a mock circulation, using water as the working fluid. For the designing of the pump, five parameters which have influences on the output characteristics of the pump were optimized through the tests. An output flow rate of 6 [L/min] at the mean aortic pressure, i.e., the pump head of 100 [mmHg], which satisfied the specification of the artificial heart, was obtained at the rotational speed of the motor of 2700 [rpm]. The maximum net energy conversion efficiency of the blood pump was about 34 [%] at the rotational speed of the motor of 3500 [rpm].
