The basic principle of a novel method of estimating the velocity vector of multiple targets. This method is based on target tracking using a beam former, and each velocity vector for multiple targets can be estimated. The proposed method utilizes several transducers, and the position of the k-th transducer is defined In the proposed method, it is assumed that the target velocity is constant within the duration of a set of transmission pulses; hence, the receiving foci are positioned on a straight line at equal intervals. Simple computer simulations are carried out to confirm the validity of the proposed method. The simulation result showed that the proposed method can be applied to multiple targets, and the velocity vector of each target can be estimated by 5-pulse transmission. The capability to detect moving targets depends on the S/N of the echo signal and the acceleration of the target.
