抄録

The authors address the problem of extending a link-oriented data model to capture more semantics of the modeled data. Instead of building a database management system (DBMS) based on the extended model, they build a data model preprocessor on an existing DBMS. The preprocessing enhances the scope of an external schema by incorporating attributes inherent in associations between objects, without altering the conceptual schema. An implementation of this technique is illustrated with an example.
