The difference of refractive index between ordinary and extraordinary rays in droplets of nematic liquid crystal (LC) E-44 at the wavelength of laser trapping was determined. The efficiency of torque transfer from light to a droplet was found to be 70% for the no-slip boundary condition. The setup to perform all-optical switching experiments by laser-trapped droplets of LCs was shown.
