N2 - We have been investigating the physicochemical properties of poly(ethoxyethyl glycidyl ether) (PEEGE) adsorbed on gold substrates. In this study, PEEGE was synthesized by an anionic ring-opening polymerization, and it was immobilized on gold substrates through Au-S bonding. The amount of adsorbed PEEGE was determined by QCM. An aqueous solution of PEEGE exhibits a lower critical solution temperature. The water contact angle (CA) on the PEEGE-modified gold substrate reversibly changed at around 34°C, which is close to the cloud point of the PEEGE aqueous solution. The change in CA is attributable to the coil-globule transition of PEEGE on the substrate.
