N2 - The paper proposes a multi-hop Reed-Solomon (RS) encoding scheme for image transmission on wireless sensor networks. In this scheme, an encoding task is divided into several small processing components, which are then distributed to multiple nodes along a path from a source node to a cluster head within a cluster. We perform extensive computational simulations to validate our method using RS codes. The proposed scheme using RS(7,3) codes not only improves the quality of the data but also balances energy consumption in the network by sharing the processing tasks. In addition, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme can be applied for RS codes with a large size of (n,k), such as RS(31,21), RS(63,51), RS(127,113), or RS(255,239) codes, and yields better results than that using RS(7,3) and RS (15,7) codes.
