Damage to fresh horticultural greengrocery leads to post-harvest losses. The damage results in reduced quality of greengrocery and income for farmers. This paper proposes paper mechatronics that incorporates electronics within a functional origami structure with cushioning properties. The device will prevent physical damage to fruit caused by impacts and vibrations during transportation and identify the timing and cause of the physical damage. The results contribute to the reduction of post-harvest losses. In this study, we have developed the cushioning structure with the printed sensor by folding the paper. The sensor on the paper was printed from a desktop inkjet printer. As a demonstration experiment, we measured the strain on the cushioning structure by connecting the device to a wheatstone bridge circuit. The aim of this research is to develop a new consumer electronics device that simultaneously absorbs and detects impacts through the device.
