N2 - A portable compositive system for the noninvasive monitoring of cardiac output (CO), arterial blood pressure (BP) and e. c. g. of the unconstrained subject is described. The system consisted of a measuring unit, recording unit, and data processing and analysing unit, the former two units being taken with a subject. The measuring unit was composed of two parts; one is for obtaining the first derivative of the transthoracic admittance variations (dY/dt) and e. c. g. using tetrapolar admittance cardiography, and the other for detecting the photoplethysmographic pulsations (PG) in the finger following the application of counterpressure (cuff pressure; P//c). The former one can measure CO based on the Kubicek's method, while the latter can determine the indirect BP based on the volume-oscillometric method. A portable 4-ch cassette data recorder was used to record the output signals from the measuring unit.
