The isolation between the transmit and receive ports was analyzed for a circularly polarized array antenna which consists of a sequential arrangement of N ± 3 radiating elements which have orthogonal linear polarizations and resonate at the frequencies of the transmit and receive ports. the element arrangement method for an infinite isolation and the relationship between the directions of polarization and the phase of the feed current were clarified. the measured isolations were about 50 dB for the three‐element array and about 70 dB for the four‐element array. A mechanism of self‐diplexing was derived for which excellent isolation between the transmit and receive antennas can be obtained even if there are amplitude and phase errors in the feed circuit. the beamscanning capability of a four‐element, self‐diplexing antenna was studied. It was found that infinite isolation between the transmit and receive ports can be obtained when the beam is scanned in the direction of the orientation axis.
