N2 - Traction motors for Electric Vehicle (EV) require downsizing. Therefore, high speed drive of the motor is desired to realize downsizing of automotive drive systems. However, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) are difficult to operate in high speed areas due to mechanical strength. On the other hand, Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs) are suitable for high speed drive because of the robust structure. In high speed areas, increase of iron loss with electric angular frequency becomes a serious problem. To overcome the problem, in this research, the SRM with amorphous steel sheet that realizes low iron loss is proposed. In this paper, to achieve higher efficiency, a divided rotor structure is proposed. It is found that the structure reduces eddy current loss in the rotor and windage loss by Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
