Study on environment conscious technologies at a super tall building: Basic examination of dynamic draft skin system by steady CFD analysis

In this report, we focused on the updraft caused by hot air that may occur in the double skin cavity introduced as a load reduction policy, and examined the possibility of Dynamic Draft Skin System (DDSS) a natural ventilation system that attracts high-rise clean outside air to lower layers. We examined the introduction of DDSS for a super tall building scheduled for completion in Japan using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis; nine cases were examined by changing the cross-sectional area of the circulation ducts (CD), opening areas of the double skin, and increasing the number of CDs. From the results, at maximum solar radiation, there was high-temperature air (approximately 50°C) in the upper part of the double skin, and the effect of attracting outside air by the updraft was confirmed.
